Andreas Svensson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nathongchai Borwongovitsakul in the 26th minute of play. Andreas Svensson was a little too slow when Vico Sticher got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 31st minute. The score was now 2-0. FC Lugano's Qiao Jian was substituted for Ray Büeler. Andreas Svensson made an important save on a dangerous shot by Qiao Jian in the 41st minute. The audience was convinced that Filip Örtlund's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Godo Gøl was relentless in the 46th minute of the game. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Qiao Jian to make the kick off.
