The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Turgut Talha made a fantastic save in the 3rd minute, when Sven-Olof Vestlund sent off a good shot on target. An unexpectedly hard shot by Vacid Nefer in the 8th minute of play forced CAN ERZURUM's goalkeeper Joar Scheie to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Turgut Talha was a little too slow when Sven-Olof Vestlund got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 10th minute. The score was now 1-0. 14 minutes into the match, Club Deportivo Español's goalkeeper Turgut Talha had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Sven-Olof Vestlund. In the 15th minute of the match CAN ERZURUM got a corner. Club Deportivo Español's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Birkan Kayra ran over to the corner to take the kick. Aybars Demirci made a great header on CAN ERZURUM's corner, it was just that Club Deportivo Español's Turgut Talha managed to reach the ball for a save. After some fancy dribbling in the 27th minute, Jacek Krzynowek managed to get in a good position for a shot. CAN ERZURUM's supporters rose to their feet, but Jacek Krzynowek was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Turgut Talha breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Joar Scheie showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kris Chamberlain in the 28th minute of the match. 30 minutes into the match, Kris Chamberlain notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of CAN ERZURUM's Joar Scheie. Joar Scheie was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After 32 played minutes Club Deportivo Español got a freekick which was hit by Arnaldo Queiroz. Cássio Corrêa hit a great freekick 34 minutes into the match. Arnaldo Queiroz got a throw-in 36 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Vacid Nefer. Turgut Talha showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sven-Olof Vestlund in the 44th minute of the match. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

60 minutes into the match, CAN ERZURUM's Sven-Olof Vestlund sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Turgut Talha narrowly saved just below the crossbar. CAN ERZURUM were awarded a corner in the 61th minute after Club Deportivo Español's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Birkan Kayra took the corner. Turgut Talha showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sven-Olof Vestlund, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. In the 63rd match minute, CAN ERZURUM was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Aybars Demirci to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to CAN ERZURUM getting a freekick after 66 minutes play. Aybars Demirci hit a great ball. In the 67th minute of the match Joaquin Hug shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Joar Scheie showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Kris Chamberlain fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Joar Scheie having to interfere. CAN ERZURUM made a substitution. Charles Puyol replaced Rolando Betadur. CAN ERZURUM's Arda Turan was substituted for Javier Zanetti. Arnaldo Queiroz hit a great freekick 78 minutes into the match. In the 81st minute, Sven-Olof Vestlund got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 86 minutes into the match, CAN ERZURUM's goal looked a bit too open when Vacid Nefer came free, but Joar Scheie reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 89 played minutes CAN ERZURUM got a freekick which was hit by Aybars Demirci. With a little luck, CAN ERZURUM's Joar Scheie got control of the ball when Vacid Nefer tried to sneak it across the goal line.
