The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Through an outstanding action, after 6 minutes, Cristinel Tomulescu successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Cristinel Tomulescu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Fernanco Peso, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Green Zombies's Cristinel Tomulescu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ludomil Kolba in the 10th minute of play. After 10 minutes of play, Sporting Cristal's Ludomil Kolba made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Cristinel Tomulescu was left in no man's land by his defense there! After 13 played minutes Sporting Cristal got a freekick which was hit by Ludomil Kolba. Jon Iruegas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zsigmond Tímár in the 14th minute of the match. 16 minutes into the match, Green Zombies's goalkeeper Cristinel Tomulescu had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Fernanco Peso. The audience was convinced that Harun Mustafa's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jon Iruegas was relentless in the 18th minute of the game. The supporters of Sporting Cristal booed when Green Zombies was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marius Prestin didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 23rd minute Zsigmond Tímár shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jon Iruegas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Fernanco Peso might have been able to make a better finish in the 38th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Cristinel Tomulescu. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Fernanco Peso ran back to his position shaking his head. An unexpectedly hard shot by Harun Mustafa in the 41st minute of play forced Sporting Cristal's goalkeeper Jon Iruegas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 47th minute Walter Carter shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jon Iruegas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Green Zombies's Mihály Hidegkúti was substituted for Zsigmond Tímár. Green Zombies's Lóránt Saághy was substituted for Roland Magos. Cristinel Tomulescu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fernanco Peso in the 68th minute of play. Sporting Cristal's Frank Tassotti was substituted for Tobias Larsson. Sporting Cristal made a substitution. Christian Luciano replaced Fernanco Peso. In the 77th minute, Ludomil Kolba hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jon Iruegas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mihály Hidegkúti in the 84th minute of the match. Gertjan De Ryck was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 96 minutes into the match. In the 95th minute, one of Sporting Cristal:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Sporting Cristal.
