André-Pierre Gignac who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 13thth minute tested the skills of Bernabe Osorio when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Teofilo Pere hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. Bernabe Osorio took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from André-Pierre Gignac, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Leonidas Barrera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arnoldo Caetano in the 21st minute of play. André-Pierre Gignac received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. CLATHU's Bernabe Osorio proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 39th minute of the match, managed to save CLATHU from getting a goal against them. 43 minutes into the match, CLATHU's goalkeeper Bernabe Osorio had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by André-Pierre Gignac. After 45 played minutes CLATHU got a freekick which was hit by Serafino Marino. In the 45th minute of the match Miguel Urane shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Bernabe Osorio showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Bernabe Osorio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Miguel Urane in the 48th minute of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The referee ignored CLATHU's protests and gave Cipriano Lander a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Buenaventura FC booed when CLATHU was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cipriano Lander didn't get a good kick on the ball.
