RWDM's supporters crossed their fingers, but Robbin van Persie was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The audience was convinced that Robbin van Persie's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Arnoldo Kismi was relentless in the 16th minute of the game. The RWDM fans' excitement grew in the 46th match minute when RWDM's Robbin van Persie looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-3 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. After the first half RWDM were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

A collision led to RWDM getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Fre Schoovaerts hit a great ball. Tony Vandenberge took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Constantino Bertol, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 54 minutes into the game, Robbin van Persie recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Arnoldo Kismi. Robbin van Persie showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-4. Arnoldo Kismi was out of position in the 57 minute of play, and Robbin van Persie capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Robbin van Persie really showed his touch with that goal: 0-5. 60 minutes into the match, C. A. Atlanta's goalkeeper Arnoldo Kismi had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Robbin van Persie. Fre Schoovaerts sent away a hard shot on goal in the 61st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cleto Ferran in the 92nd minute of play forced RWDM's goalkeeper Tony Vandenberge to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. RWDM played a much better game than C. A. Atlanta and deserved their victory. The C. A. Atlanta players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
