The Chi Minh City fans' excitement grew in the 13th match minute when Chi Minh City's Nguyễn Viet looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 3-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. After 15 played minutes Chi Minh City got a freekick which was hit by Nguyễn Phuoc. An unexpectedly hard shot by Job Hebels in the 17th minute of play forced Chi Minh City's goalkeeper Trần Hong to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Trần Hong came out of the goal in the 18th minute to try and stop a shot by Wolfsberg HC's Gio Luirink. But to his dismay, Gio Luirink quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-1. Trần Hong took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Job Hebels, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a rather tough play, Chi Minh City's Nguyễn Viet got a free kick in the 25th minute. Bill Ridder charged in rather forcefully in the 28th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Bill Ridder the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Leon Steelman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Trần Hong having to interfere. Trần Hong showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bill Ridder, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Trần Hong took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bill Ridder, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Dương Huỳnh fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Roelof Palsma having to interfere. Nguyễn Viet might have been able to make a better finish in the 41st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Roelof Palsma. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nguyễn Viet ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 45th minute Brain Heck shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Trần Hong saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-1.
Lê Thuyet might have been able to make a better finish in the 51st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Roelof Palsma. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Lê Thuyet ran back to his position shaking his head. After 57 minutes of play Wolfsberg HC's Bill Ridder was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. A collision led to Wolfsberg HC getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. Bill Ridder hit a great ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Lê Tu during the 61st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. When Jasper Rooy came up free with the goalie in the 62nd minute, the Wolfsberg HC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jasper Rooy couldn't finish the play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Gio Luirink during the 67th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Roelof Palsma made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nguyễn Viet in the 68th minute of play. Chi Minh City's Nguyễn Viet got a good chance for a goal in the 89th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Wolfsberg HC's zone, Nguyễn Viet stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Roelof Palsma came out of the goal and Nguyễn Viet tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Wolfsberg HC's Roelof Palsma played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nguyễn Viet in the 93rd minute of play.
