An unexpectedly hard shot by João Dante in the 28th minute of play forced Western Springs FC's goalkeeper Hal Mackey to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

With an all-out effort, Charles Town's Hal Mackey threw himself towards the right post 52 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Sean Egan, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. In the 59th match minute, Western Springs FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Frankie Russell to maneuver through the defense. Lionel Egan's late challenge caught a Charles Town's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card.
