Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Don Malbec in the 18th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Aaron Smallwood prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 20 minutes into the match, Charlotte FC's goalkeeper Bryant Miles had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Tyron Velasquez. 22 minutes into the match, Santos FC's goal looked a bit too open when Don Malbec came free, but Aaron Smallwood reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Bryant Miles was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 25th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Warren Ruiz. An unexpectedly hard shot by Don Malbec in the 26th minute of play forced Santos FC's goalkeeper Aaron Smallwood to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Bryant Miles made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lanny Gilmore in the 32nd minute of play. Tyron Velasquez could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 34th minute of the match, but Bryant Miles made a huge save. A sloppy throw-in by Anthony Wall in the 39th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Charlotte FC's Felix Dias. 42 minutes into the match, Santos FC's goal looked a bit too open when Don Malbec came free, but Aaron Smallwood reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Santos FC's attentive Titus Kohler managed to snatch the ball when Francesco Keller made a throw-in in the 46th minute of the game. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Lanny Gilmore stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute Lanny Gilmore shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bryant Miles saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 59 played minutes Santos FC got a freekick which was hit by Anthony Wall. Kaja Jamak struck a weak shot in the 59th minute. Aaron Smallwood didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Charlotte FC. Don Malbec fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aaron Smallwood having to interfere. In the 74th minute Terence Nicholas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bryant Miles saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Don Malbec's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Aaron Smallwood read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 78th minute of play. In the 80th minute, Don Malbec got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Charlotte FC's Wander Suzanne was substituted for Braulio Hitz. Bryant Miles showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lanny Gilmore, who was totally free with the ball in the 83rd minute. In the 92nd minute, Anthony Wall hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Aaron Smallwood showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vicente Rafferty, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Charlotte FC eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
