In the 21st minute Benedykt Cwenar shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Boyd Winkler saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. FC Schalke 04's Gilles Eichenberger played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jaime McClendon in the 24th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Jaime McClendon's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gilles Eichenberger was relentless in the 27th minute of the game. Jaime McClendon scored 2-0 in the 41st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Gilles Eichenberger, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After 43 played minutes FC Schalke 04 got a freekick which was hit by Benedykt Cwenar. Jaime McClendon struck a weak shot in the 45th minute. Gilles Eichenberger didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Pueblo FC. After 48 minutes FC Schalke 04's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Jaime McClendon who took care of the corner kick. Gerry Franco was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell František Spousta to make the kick off. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jaime McClendon in the 53rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Gilles Eichenberger saved FC Schalke 04 from getting behind.
