The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After 3 played minutes Athletis PR got a freekick which was hit by Pavlo Oschypko. In the 9th minute Silvério Fernandez shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lưu Thuyet saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Lưu Thuyet took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Silvério Fernandez, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lưu Thuyet showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Anísio Valladares in the 12th minute of the match. Wiliam Prado made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nguyễn Nga in the 14th minute of play. Huỳnh Dung hit a great freekick 15 minutes into the match. Genílson Leme sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Lưu Thuyet made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Silvério Fernandez in the 20th minute of play. Silvério Fernandez fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lưu Thuyet having to interfere. 25 minutes into the match, Athletis PR's goal looked a bit too open when Nguyễn Chi came free, but Wiliam Prado reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 29th minute Athletis PR were awarded a corner. Silvério Fernandez went to the cornerflag to take it. Athletis PR's Silvério Fernandez was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Lưu Thuyet in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. After some careless play in the Sài Gòn defense, Genílson Leme kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Lưu Thuyet. The Sài Gòn fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Lưu Thuyet should have stopped the shot. Genílson Leme received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Lưu Thuyet tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 39 played minutes Athletis PR got a freekick which was hit by Marco de Moraes. After a rather tough play, Sài Gòn's Đặng Dung got a free kick in the 42nd minute. Lưu Thuyet showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Silvério Fernandez, who was totally free with the ball in the 48th minute. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The wind increased when Silvério Fernandez made the kick off in the second half. After 57 minutes of play, Sài Gòn's Nguyễn Chi made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Wiliam Prado was left in no man's land by his defense there! After 59 played minutes Athletis PR got a freekick which was hit by Genílson Leme. Athletis PR's Breno Marquez was substituted for Nafarroa Hormeño. Athletis PR's Stig-Ove Alebeck was substituted for Silvério Fernandez. Genílson Leme received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 73rd minute. Lưu Thuyet tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Genílson Leme could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 81st minute of the match, but Lưu Thuyet made a huge save. Lưu Thuyet made an important save on a dangerous shot by Genílson Leme in the 83rd minute. Wiliam Prado took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nguyễn Duc, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Genílson Leme got free with Lưu Thuyet in the 86th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Lưu Thuyet made a fantastic save in the 89th minute, when Genílson Leme sent off a good shot on target. If Genílson Leme had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Athletis PR's Alex Rosado was substituted for Genílson Leme. A collision led to Sài Gòn getting a freekick after 93 minutes play. Huỳnh Dung hit a great ball. 95 minutes into the match, Alex Rosado had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Lưu Thuyet. Sài Gòn's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Alex Rosado was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-3. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Athletis PR walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
