Didi Chong fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wasiu Olaoye having to interfere. Guildford AFC's Darren Cho played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Olusegun Nalaya in the 19th minute of play. After some careless play in the Guildford AFC defense, Gilbert Nnaemeka kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Darren Cho. The Guildford AFC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Darren Cho should have stopped the shot. In the 27th minute Zafran Seng shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wasiu Olaoye saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 31st minute, Wei Xuan Lim hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Zafran Seng who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 35thth minute tested the skills of Wasiu Olaoye when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Wasiu Olaoye was a little too slow when Teodoro Magalhães got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 38th minute. The score was now 2-1. Darren Cho made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Chinua Onianwa in the 42nd minute of play. 44 minutes into the match, Guildford AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Gilbert Nnaemeka came free, but Darren Cho reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Didi Chong sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Chinua Onianwa to strike the kick off in the second half.
