Spectators: 157 (Terracing: 118, Seating: 36, VIP seats: 3) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Erkan Fostiropoulos got the match started through his kick off. In the 4th minute Ebbo Böse shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Merten Schütz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Rot-Weiss-Essen booed when Blau Weiß Sauerland was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. Andreas Beier didn't get a good kick on the ball. Merten Schütz came out of the goal in the 6th minute to try and stop a shot by Rot-Weiss-Essen's Ebbo Böse. But to his dismay, Ebbo Böse quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Elmar Assing blasted a shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Merten Schütz having to make a save. 11 minutes into the game, Erkan Fostiropoulos lined in a short shot 2-0 behind a frustrated Merten Schütz. When Erkan Fostiropoulos came up free with the goalie in the 14th minute, the Rot-Weiss-Essen fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Erkan Fostiropoulos couldn't finish the play. Elmar Assing sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Andreas Beier kicked well hit freekick during the 20th minute of the match. Blau Weiß Sauerland's defense didn't have a chance, in the 23rd minute, when Erkan Fostiropoulos scored to the left of an out of position Merten Schütz, making the score, 3-0. Andreas Beier fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Uwe Ziege having to interfere. Merten Schütz came out of the goal in the 35th minute to try and stop a shot by Rot-Weiss-Essen's Erkan Fostiropoulos. But to his dismay, Erkan Fostiropoulos quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0. Ebbo Böse fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Merten Schütz having to interfere. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 4-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Günther Josef made a kick off. Blau Weiß Sauerland's Merten Schütz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Xavi Haberer in the 51st minute of play. Uwe Ziege made an important save on a dangerous shot by Günther Josef in the 52nd minute. When the match had gone on for 54 minutes, Erkan Fostiropoulos put it in 5-0 from a short distance just to the right of Merten Schütz. Wolfgang Burgmeier received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Uwe Ziege tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 67th minute of the match Gunther Schößler shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Merten Schütz showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After a rather tough play, Blau Weiß Sauerland's Rainder Just got a free kick in the 68th minute. Elmar Assing received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 75th minute. Merten Schütz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Rot-Weiss-Essen's Ebbo Böse got a good chance for a goal in the 77th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Merten Schütz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Erkan Fostiropoulos in the 81st minute of the match. Many of Blau Weiß Sauerland's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Blau Weiß Sauerland may have spent more time on the ball, but Rot-Weiss-Essen were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
