Sydney FC's Jakov Stähr started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Sydney FC's Kai Petermann shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 4th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Tim Wiese but with some difficulty. 9 minutes into the match, SV Bad Harzburg's goal looked a bit too open when Per Schäfer came free, but Tim Wiese reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Tim Wiese showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Thorben Rittmann, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. 15 minutes into the match, SV Bad Harzburg's goal looked a bit too open when Erich Egger came free, but Tim Wiese reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Tim Wiese made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Erich Egger in the 19th minute of play. After 22 minutes, Nat Schmitt mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Sydney FC and the SV Bad Harzburg players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Sydney FC's Nat Schmitt got a free kick in the 22nd minute. With a little luck, SV Bad Harzburg's Tim Wiese got control of the ball when Jakov Stähr tried to sneak it across the goal line. Nat Schmitt got his second yellow card in the match during the 27th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. In the 27th minute, Nat Schmitt hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A collision led to Sydney FC getting a freekick after 29 minutes play. Per Schäfer hit a great ball. Sydney FC's Rasmus Gölz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eckard Döngelli in the 31st minute of play. 46 minutes in the game, the ball went up into the seats when SV Bad Harzburg's Eckard Döngelli fired away a shot that was just a little bit too high. He walked away shaking his head. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jakov Stähr in the 48th minute of play forced SV Bad Harzburg's goalkeeper Tim Wiese to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Eckard Döngelli to strike the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the game, Sydney FC's Jakov Stähr nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Tim Wiese made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. SV Bad Harzburg's Tim Wiese played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jakov Stähr in the 54th minute of play. Eckard Döngelli received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Rasmus Gölz came out and tried to block the shot, but Eckard Döngelli slotted it home off the left post making it 1-1 in the 62nd minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Eckard Döngelli got free with Rasmus Gölz in the 70th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Tim Wiese made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Erich Egger in the 71st minute of play. In the 78th minute the ball was on its way in behind Sydney FC's goalkeeper Rasmus Gölz, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Sydney FC's Rasmus Gölz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eckard Döngelli in the 80th minute of play. In the 81st minute, Erich Egger hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 82nd minute Eckard Döngelli shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rasmus Gölz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. SV Bad Harzburg were awarded a corner in the 84th minute after Sydney FC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Klaus Vielhaus took the corner. After taking down the ball on SV Bad Harzburg's corner Eckard Döngelli fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Rasmus Gölz quite easily take care of the ball. With a little luck, Sydney FC's Rasmus Gölz got control of the ball when Eckard Döngelli tried to sneak it across the goal line. John Rambo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 89th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Tim Wiese showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jakov Stähr, who was totally free with the ball in the 92nd minute. Rasmus Gölz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from John Rambo went, in the 95th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. When the final whistle sounded SV Bad Harzburg left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Sydney FC.
