The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After a rather tough play, Fotbal Club Vaslui's Felix Nisporeanu got a free kick in the 10th minute. Mircea Jupân scored 3-0 in the 18th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Gigel Rânceanu, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After 22nd play minutes Mircea Jupân shot 4-0, a short shot which went by Gigel Rânceanu and just under the crossbar into goal. In the 24th match minute, Fotbal Club Vaslui was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mihnea Fânaru to maneuver through the defense. Vlad Covrig made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Aurel Halipa in the 27th minute of play. In the 30th minute, Fotbal Club Vaslui's Alin Geamănu seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Alin Geamănu the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Fotbal Club Vaslui protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Alin Geamănu had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. 29 minutes into the game, one of Fotbal Club Vaslui:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. The referee gave PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca a penalty, 32 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Eric Astafei, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Fotbal Club Vaslui's Gigel Rânceanu. 5-0. In the 39th minute, Aurel Halipa left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Fotbal Club Vaslui fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 5-1. When Olimpiu Fecioru fell near the penalty area in the 44th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca's protests and gave Olimpiu Fecioru a yellow card for diving instead. Olimpiu Fecioru hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 5-1.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Andrei Vârjean made a kick off. A collision led to PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Olimpiu Fecioru hit a great ball. With a little luck, PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca's Vlad Covrig got control of the ball when Aurel Halipa tried to sneak it across the goal line. 68 minutes into the match, PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca's goal looked a bit too open when Aurel Halipa came free, but Vlad Covrig reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 73rd minute, Cristi Borza ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Gigel Rânceanu was frozen by the shot and now it was 6-1. 77 minutes into the game, Emil Amuguroancei was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Fotbal Club Vaslui the free kick. Emil Amuguroancei hit a great freekick 77 minutes into the match. Olimpiu Fecioru kicked well hit freekick during the 80th minute of the match. Vlad Covrig made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Aurel Halipa in the 82nd minute of play. Gigel Rânceanu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mircea Jupân in the 83rd minute of the match. In the 87th match minute, PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mircea Jupân to maneuver through the defense. 88 minutes into the match, PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca's goalkeeper Vlad Covrig had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Felix Nisporeanu. The audience thought a goal was coming when Andrei Vârjean got free with Vlad Covrig in the 92nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 93rd minute Mircea Jupân shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gigel Rânceanu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
