The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 6th minute, Ruud Demeulemeester hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 13 minutes into the match, FC Bruges's goal looked a bit too open when Ruud Demeulemeester came free, but Douglas Schoenmaekers reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 15th minute Sammy Vogels shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Douglas Schoenmaekers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Through an outstanding action, after 16 minutes, Nico Van Doren successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Douglas Schoenmaekers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sammy Vogels in the 19th minute of play. In the 22nd minute, Quentin Thielens left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Les Bistouquettes Bleues fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Sammy Vogels in the 25th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Douglas Schoenmaekers prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a rather tough play, FC Bruges's Herman Bormans got a free kick in the 26th minute. The Les Bistouquettes Bleues fans' excitement grew in the 34th match minute when Les Bistouquettes Bleues's Ruud Demeulemeester looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-3 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Douglas Schoenmaekers showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sammy Vogels in the 39th minute of the match. Ruud Demeulemeester succeeded in the game's 40th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 0-4. After the first half Les Bistouquettes Bleues were leading 0-4. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Mathieux De Weyngaert to make the kick off. 60 minutes into the match, Quentin Thielens dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Douglas Schoenmaekers, 0-6. Sammy Vogels scored 0-7 in the 63rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Douglas Schoenmaekers, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Douglas Schoenmaekers took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sammy Vogels, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The long shot by Brian Smet in the 74th minute really tested Douglas Schoenmaekers's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Douglas Schoenmaekers made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ruud Demeulemeester in the 76th minute. Quentin Thielens could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 78th minute of the match, but Douglas Schoenmaekers made a huge save. In the 80th minute Sammy Vogels shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Douglas Schoenmaekers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Les Bistouquettes Bleues booed when FC Bruges was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mathieux De Weyngaert's late challenge caught a Les Bistouquettes Bleues's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Mathieux De Weyngaert helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Les Bistouquettes Bleues booed when FC Bruges was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 89 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mathieux De Weyngaert didn't get a good kick on the ball. FC Bruges's defense didn't have a chance, in the 90th minute, when Sammy Vogels scored to the left of an out of position Douglas Schoenmaekers, making the score, 0-8. Ruud Demeulemeester sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Douglas Schoenmaekers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sammy Vogels in the 95th minute of play. 97 minutes into the match, Sammy Vogels dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Douglas Schoenmaekers, 0-9. The Les Bistouquettes Bleues supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Les Bistouquettes Bleues would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
