Spectators: 165 (Terracing: 124,
Seating: 38, VIP seats: 3) Cornel Ulici started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. Bernt Cesters received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 3rd minute. Alex Pihl tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 7th minute Ruben Smidts shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sergio Coomans saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ruben Smidts received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Sergio Coomans came out and tried to block the shot, but Ruben Smidts slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 7th minute. 12 minutes into the game, Leif Olofsson lined in a short shot 2-0 behind a frustrated Sergio Coomans. SK Mons's Ruben Smidts got a good chance for a goal in the 17th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Leif Olofsson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sergio Coomans having to interfere. 25 minutes into the match, Genk's goalkeeper Sergio Coomans had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cornel Ulici. Levi Van Laeck scored 2-1 in the 30th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Alex Pihl, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After taking down the ball on SK Mons's corner Peng Xu fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Sergio Coomans quite easily take care of the ball. Alex Pihl took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Charly Tombuer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cornel Ulici's late challenge caught a Genk's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Cornel Ulici helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Genk booed when SK Mons was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cornel Ulici didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some careless play in the SK Mons defense, Siebe Dejonghe kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Alex Pihl. The SK Mons fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Alex Pihl should have stopped the shot. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Siebe Dejonghe made a kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Siebe Dejonghe managed to get in a good position for a shot. Genk's supporters rose to their feet, but Siebe Dejonghe was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Alex Pihl breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Sergio Coomans showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ruben Smidts in the 54th minute of the match. In the 56th minute, Ferdinand Van den Inde hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Alex Pihl showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dean Van Boekost, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. 62 minutes into the game, Şeref Erez was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. SK Mons's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Genk the free kick. After 62 played minutes SK Mons got a freekick which was hit by Şeref Erez. SK Mons's Lennart Libesoons was substituted for Nick Daniels. The supporters of Genk booed when SK Mons was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Şeref Erez didn't get a good kick on the ball. Genk's Martial Van Meel shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 64th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Alex Pihl but with some difficulty. After some fancy dribbling in the 67th minute, Ruben Smidts managed to get in a good position for a shot. SK Mons's supporters rose to their feet, but Ruben Smidts was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Sergio Coomans showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cornel Ulici in the 81st minute of the match. After 83 played minutes SK Mons got a freekick which was hit by Leif Olofsson. Alex Pihl took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Levi Van Laeck, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. During the 88th minute of the match Şeref Erez completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Şeref Erez a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. A collision led to SK Mons getting a freekick after 89 minutes play. Şeref Erez hit a great ball. Alex Pihl made a fantastic save in the 91st minute, when Siebe Dejonghe sent off a good shot on target. Siebe Dejonghe could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 95th minute of the match, but Alex Pihl made a huge save.
