Jim Mitchell showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Chu Zheng Yu, who was totally free with the ball in the 5th minute. The audience was convinced that Merrill Banks's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jim Mitchell was relentless in the 7th minute of the game. 8 minutes into the game, Racing Miami Futbol Club's Merrill Banks nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jim Mitchell made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Merrill Banks recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 15th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Jim Mitchell showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Shane Smiley in the 18th minute of the match. Merrill Banks blasted a shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jim Mitchell having to make a save. After having played for 21 minutes, Merrill Banks managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Racing Miami Futbol Club's supporters crossed their fingers, but Merrill Banks was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Merrill Banks in the 25th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jim Mitchell saved Santos FC from getting behind. Lawrence Smart hit a great freekick 25 minutes into the match. When Phil Vine came up free with the goalie in the 26th minute, the Racing Miami Futbol Club fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Phil Vine couldn't finish the play. The supporters of Racing Miami Futbol Club booed when Santos FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Benito Hyde didn't get a good kick on the ball. Merrill Banks blasted a shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jim Mitchell having to make a save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Merrill Banks in the 36th minute of play forced Santos FC's goalkeeper Jim Mitchell to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the Santos FC defense, Merrill Banks kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jim Mitchell. The Santos FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jim Mitchell should have stopped the shot. The Santos FC players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Racing Miami Futbol Club were winning 0-3.

In the 52nd minute, Racing Miami Futbol Club's Merrill Banks dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-4. In the 56th minute, Santos FC's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Merrill Banks fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Merrill Banks came free with the goalkeeper in the 57th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Jim Mitchell could save by the left post. In the 62nd minute, Racing Miami Futbol Club's Merrill Banks dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-5. In the 68th minute of the match, Keenan Worthington got a very nice opportunity to score, but Jim Mitchell was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Racing Miami Futbol Club's Denny Godwin was substituted for Chu Zheng Yu. James Joyner recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 74th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 75 minutes into the match, Keenan Worthington had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jim Mitchell. Santos FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Keenan Worthington was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-6. Racing Miami Futbol Club's Keenan Worthington got a good chance for a goal in the 79th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Denny Godwin's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jim Mitchell read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 82nd minute of play. Keenan Worthington recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 84th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Keenan Worthington's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jim Mitchell read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 87th minute of play. In the 89th minute Keenan Worthington shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jim Mitchell saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 91st minute, Shane Smiley got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When the match had gone on for 93 minutes, Keenan Worthington took a quick shot and it went in 0-7 without a chance for Jim Mitchell to make any attempt to save it.
