Adelino Coelho made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Marco Varela in the 11th minute of play. 12 minutes into the match, Gentil Vasques notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Minho FC's Jairo Calçada. Jairo Calçada was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Pedro Pinho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Minho FC booed when SC Braga was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gentil Vasques didn't get a good kick on the ball. Maurício Pimentel could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 22nd minute of the match, but Adelino Coelho made a huge save. Saúl Passos was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 24 minutes into the match. In the 27th minute, Maurício Pimentel made a precise shot to the right of Adelino Coelho. SC Braga's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. Isidoro Vilarinho could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 33rd minute of the match, but Adelino Coelho made a huge save. In the 38th match minute, SC Braga was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ricardo Vasques to maneuver through the defense. A hard shot by Jordão Figueiredo from long distance, 39 minutes into the match, got Adelino Coelho's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. In the 40th match minute, SC Braga was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gentil Vasques to maneuver through the defense. When Ricardo Vasques fell near the penalty area in the 44th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored SC Braga's protests and gave Ricardo Vasques a yellow card for diving instead. Ricardo Vasques hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Jordão Figueiredo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 58 minutes into the game, Isidoro Vilarinho was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Minho FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave SC Braga the free kick. In the 59th minute, Isidoro Vilarinho hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Evandro Figueiras came up free with the goalie in the 60th minute, the SC Braga fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Evandro Figueiras couldn't finish the play. SC Braga's Adelino Coelho played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Maurício Pimentel in the 63rd minute of play. Jordão Figueiredo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 65th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Jairo Calçada showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Pedro Pinho, who was totally free with the ball in the 67th minute. After a rather tough play, SC Braga's Celso Belo got a free kick in the 83rd minute. In the 84th minute, Cassiano Lessa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Minho FC's Raimundo Valente quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Ricardo Vasques, made in the 88th minute of the game. A collision led to SC Braga getting a freekick after 90 minutes play. Cassiano Lessa hit a great ball. Jordão Figueiredo took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 90th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Adelino Coelho. SC Braga's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. A collision led to Minho FC getting a freekick after 95 minutes play. Raimundo Valente hit a great ball. After 95 played minutes, SC Braga's Ricardo Vasques shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Jairo Calçada came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in SC Braga reached it. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
