Gladiadores's Zacarias Pero tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. 16 minutes into the match, Wilfredo Etxahun notched a goal, 2-0, to the right of Gladiadores's Zacarias Pero. Zacarias Pero was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Gladiadores's Zacarias Pero played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Angel Di Maria in the 21st minute of play. Benigno Eriz in the 27thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Zacarias Pero, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Gladiadores's defense didn't have a chance, in the 31st minute, when Angel Di Maria scored to the left of an out of position Zacarias Pero, making the score, 3-0. When the match had gone on for 38 minutes, Mauro Perez put it in 4-0 from a short distance just to the right of Zacarias Pero. 41 minutes into the match, Gladiadores's goal looked a bit too open when Bonifacio Oliverio came free, but Zacarias Pero reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Benigno Eriz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Zacarias Pero having to interfere. In the 44th minute, Angel Di Maria ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Zacarias Pero was frozen by the shot and now it was 5-0.

Sporting de Gijón's Timoteo Eguntsenti was substituted for Benigno Eriz. The audience thought a goal was coming when Wilfredo Monico got free with Fausto George in the 55th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After some fancy dribbling in the 63rd minute, Norberto Iliana managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sporting de Gijón's supporters rose to their feet, but Norberto Iliana was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Zacarias Pero breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 64 minutes into the game, Sporting de Gijón's Mauro Perez nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Zacarias Pero showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mauro Perez in the 68th minute of the match. Norberto Iliana recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 72nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Sporting de Gijón's Mauro Perez suffered a concussion in the 74th minute, after a hard challenge, and had to leave the field. Evelio Baristo helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Sporting de Gijón booed when Gladiadores was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Evelio Baristo didn't get a good kick on the ball. 80 minutes into the match, Celestino Illart notched a goal, 7-0, to the right of Gladiadores's Zacarias Pero. Zacarias Pero was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. If Celestino Illart had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Celestino Illart sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Sporting de Gijón had played much better football throughout.
