Spectators: 150 (Terracing: 113, Seating: 34, VIP seats: 3) San Martin de Tucuman's Flavio Blai started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Celedonio Peruxu was out of position in the 3 minute of play, and Benigno Conrao capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Benigno Conrao really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. The audience thought a goal was coming when Diego Ralondo got free with Celedonio Peruxu in the 6th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 7th minute, Flavio Blai made a precise shot to the right of Nereo Pedroso. Universitario Pincharrata's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. After a defensive mix-up in San Martin de Tucuman's zone, Benigno Conrao stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Celedonio Peruxu came out of the goal and Benigno Conrao tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 21 minutes into the game, Benigno Conrao cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-1. Celedonio Peruxu was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Celedonio Peruxu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Diego Ralondo in the 24th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, San Martin de Tucuman's Zé Meirelles got a free kick in the 30th minute. If Carlos Bilardo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 33rd minute, Carlos Bilardo left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Universitario Pincharrata fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-1. After a rather tough play, San Martin de Tucuman's Claudio Hondo got a free kick in the 36th minute. A collision led to San Martin de Tucuman getting a freekick after 39 minutes play. Zé Meirelles hit a great ball. In the 41st match minute, Universitario Pincharrata was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Godfredo Fonda to maneuver through the defense. After some careless play in the Universitario Pincharrata defense, Leo Paskal kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Nereo Pedroso. The Universitario Pincharrata fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nereo Pedroso should have stopped the shot. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 4-2.

After 53 minutes of play, San Martin de Tucuman's Leo Paskal made it 4-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Nereo Pedroso was left in no man's land by his defense there! After 57 played minutes San Martin de Tucuman got a freekick which was hit by Marco Gimenez. San Martin de Tucuman made a substitution. Blas Oxarra replaced Claudio Hondo. A collision led to San Martin de Tucuman getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. Marco Gimenez hit a great ball. Javier Mazzoni blasted a shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Celedonio Peruxu having to make a save. Javier Mazzoni fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Celedonio Peruxu having to interfere. Osvaldo Principe was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 63 minutes into the match. In the 64th match minute, Universitario Pincharrata was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Osvaldo Principe to maneuver through the defense. When Leo Paskal came up free with the goalie in the 65th minute, the San Martin de Tucuman fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Leo Paskal couldn't finish the play. When Blas Oxarra fell near the penalty area in the 71st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored San Martin de Tucuman's protests and gave Blas Oxarra a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Universitario Pincharrata booed when San Martin de Tucuman was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 71 match minutes in a wonderful position. Blas Oxarra didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience was convinced that Benigno Conrao's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Celedonio Peruxu was relentless in the 74th minute of the game. Carlos Bilardo took the ball and in the 80 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Celedonio Peruxu. Celedonio Peruxu dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 5-3. San Martin de Tucuman's Maximo Arotza was substituted for Gregorio Atarrabi. Nereo Pedroso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rogelio Clodio, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 87th minute Javier Mazzoni shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Celedonio Peruxu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. San Martin de Tucuman's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
