Victor Grimalschi charged in rather forcefully in the 10th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Victor Grimalschi the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, UFC Puturoasa's Victor Grimalschi got a free kick in the 11th minute. The supporters of UFC Puturoasa booed when Seraċini Għawdxin was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Wayne Schembri Zerafa didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 20th minute, Robert Seychell made a precise shot to the right of Petr Čech. UFC Puturoasa's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. The audience thought a goal was coming when Mircea Musteatã got free with Clayton Gerada in the 39th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After some fancy dribbling in the 43rd minute, Robert Seychell managed to get in a good position for a shot. Seraċini Għawdxin's supporters rose to their feet, but Robert Seychell was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Petr Čech breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Emil Sângeorzan stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute Stefan Vanghele shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Clayton Gerada saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Petr Čech made an important save on a dangerous shot by Angelo Trigona in the 56th minute. Petr Čech made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Antoine Bugelli in the 59th minute of play. The corner led Seraċini Għawdxin's Richard Pavia to fire away a dangerous shot which Petr Čech despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. In the 66th minute, Seraċini Għawdxin's Angelo Trigona ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Petr Čech. Petr Čech yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-2. Clayton Gerada showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Emil Sângeorzan, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. When Seraċini Għawdxin's Robert Seychell in the 73rd minute got a chance for a shot 73rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Petr Čech came out of the goal and Robert Seychell tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Emil Sângeorzan scored 1-3 in the 87th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Clayton Gerada, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot.
