The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. A collision led to Desportivo Lucca MZ getting a freekick after 4 minutes play. Orlando Munhoz hit a great ball. In the 7th minute Dinei Toscano shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcelinho Cruz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Dinei Toscano took the ball and in the 16 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Marcelinho Cruz. Marcelinho Cruz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. With 28 minutes on the clock, Orlando Munhoz commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. 33 minutes into the match, Desportivo Lucca MZ's goal looked a bit too open when Nicky Butt came free, but Marcelinho Cruz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Desportivo Lucca MZ booed when Independência Futebol was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nicky Butt didn't get a good kick on the ball. Michel de Brito kicked well hit freekick during the 39th minute of the match. Cristian Oliveira might have been able to make a better finish in the 40th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Marcelinho Cruz. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Cristian Oliveira ran back to his position shaking his head. Marcelinho Cruz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nicky Butt in the 46th minute of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Sandro da Fonseca stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Michel de Brito fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ronaldinho Gaúcho having to interfere. The supporters of Independência Futebol booed when Desportivo Lucca MZ was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jacinto Duarte didn't get a good kick on the ball. Marcelinho Cruz made an important save on a dangerous shot by Nicky Butt in the 62nd minute. 64 minutes into the game, Dinei Toscano was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Independência Futebol's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Desportivo Lucca MZ the free kick. Dinei Toscano kicked well hit freekick during the 64th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Independência Futebol's Nicky Butt got a free kick in the 66th minute. If Sandro da Fonseca had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 68th match minute, Independência Futebol was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alessandro Vides to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Independência Futebol's zone, Sandro da Fonseca stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ronaldinho Gaúcho came out of the goal and Sandro da Fonseca tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 70 minutes, Nicky Butt managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Independência Futebol's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nicky Butt was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Cristian Oliveira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 76th minute. Marcelinho Cruz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ronaldinho Gaúcho made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sandro da Fonseca in the 81st minute of play. If Sandro da Fonseca had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Desportivo Lucca MZ's Hermínio Leite got a free kick in the 85th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Oliveira in the 88th minute of play forced Desportivo Lucca MZ's goalkeeper Marcelinho Cruz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sandro da Fonseca sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Independência Futebol's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
