After some fancy dribbling in the 5th minute, Hermínio Ferraz managed to get in a good position for a shot. Alvinegro Carioca's supporters rose to their feet, but Hermínio Ferraz was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Oscar Saldanha breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Ciro Castro fell near the penalty area in the 6th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Squadra Demarchi's protests and gave Ciro Castro a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Squadra Demarchi's Ciro Castro got a free kick in the 7th minute. Léo Faria took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 8th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Oscar Saldanha. Squadra Demarchi's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet as Rafael da Rocha kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Cássio Aguiar. That made the score 1-0 in the 9 minute of play. Oscar Saldanha stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Carlos Augusto Sampaio's shot from short distance in the 14th minute. The supporters of Squadra Demarchi booed when Alvinegro Carioca was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sidney Sousa didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 25th minute, Ronaldão de Carvalho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Cássio Aguiar made an important save on a dangerous shot by Kléber Queirós in the 30th minute. Oscar Saldanha made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hermínio Ferraz in the 37th minute of play. Cássio Aguiar made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sílvio Alagoano in the 40th minute of play. If Tadeu Sarmento had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After 43 played minutes Alvinegro Carioca got a freekick which was hit by Sidney Sousa. Squadra Demarchi's Oscar Saldanha played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Carlos Augusto Sampaio in the 48th minute of play. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Sílvio Alagoano to strike the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Alvinegro Carioca's Nicodim Mihădaș got a free kick in the 51st minute. Squadra Demarchi's Oscar Saldanha played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Silvinho Brodel in the 53rd minute of play. In the 56th minute Kléber Queirós shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cássio Aguiar saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Squadra Demarchi's Oscar Saldanha proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 61st minute of the match, managed to save Squadra Demarchi from getting a goal against them. With a little luck, Squadra Demarchi's Oscar Saldanha got control of the ball when Tadeu Sarmento tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a rather tough play, Alvinegro Carioca's Carlos Augusto Sampaio got a free kick in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After a defensive mix-up in Squadra Demarchi's zone, Tadeu Sarmento stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Oscar Saldanha came out of the goal and Tadeu Sarmento tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 84th minute, Elivélton Souto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kléber Queirós in the 89th minute of play forced Alvinegro Carioca's goalkeeper Cássio Aguiar to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Squadra Demarchi getting a freekick after 90 minutes play. Ciro Castro hit a great ball. Carlos Augusto Sampaio succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-1 in the 92nd playminute. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Alvinegro Carioca players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
