Lino da Costa didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience was convinced that Walmir Pontes's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Carlos Miguel was relentless in the 12th minute of the game. After a rather tough play, Merusca F&P - CIMZ's Claudinho Sá got a free kick in the 13th minute. 19 minutes into the match, Merusca F&P - CIMZ's Walmir Pontes sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Carlos Miguel narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Walmir Pontes recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 20th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Walmir Pontes scored 0-1 in the 22nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Carlos Miguel, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 27th minute Walmir Pontes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Carlos Miguel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 31 minutes into the match, GRÊMIO's Ettore Gaeta sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Franz Dubosq narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 32 played minutes Merusca F&P - CIMZ got a freekick which was hit by Gilberto Massa. Franz Dubosq took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Elpidio Gai, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Franz Dubosq showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Elpidio Gai in the 39th minute of the match. Carlos Miguel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Walmir Pontes, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. Walmir Pontes recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 47th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

A sloppy throw-in by Lino da Costa in the 54th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Merusca F&P - CIMZ's Leopoldo de Queiroz. Walmir Pontes struck a weak shot in the 55th minute. Carlos Miguel didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Merusca F&P - CIMZ. The audience thought a goal was coming when Walmir Pontes got free with Carlos Miguel in the 56th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 58th match minute, Merusca F&P - CIMZ was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Leopoldo de Queiroz to maneuver through the defense. After 59 played minutes Merusca F&P - CIMZ got a freekick which was hit by Walmir Pontes. In the 60th match minute, GRÊMIO was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lino da Costa to maneuver through the defense. Merusca F&P - CIMZ made a substitution. Merusca F&P - CIMZ's attentive Gustavo Gomez Blanco managed to snatch the ball when Lino da Costa made a throw-in in the 93rd minute of the game. The Merusca F&P - CIMZ supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Merusca F&P - CIMZ would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
