The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Toninho Xavier showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Toninho Xavier came out of the goal in the 19th minute to try and stop a shot by Academia Militar MZ's Bernd Goldsche. But to his dismay, Bernd Goldsche quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Gilmar Torres scored 0-2 in the 25th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Toninho Xavier, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When Academia Militar MZ's Bernd Goldsche in the 28th minute got a chance for a shot 28th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. After a defensive mix-up in Batalhão do Peçanha's zone, Bernd Goldsche stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Toninho Xavier came out of the goal and Bernd Goldsche tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Batalhão do Peçanha's Toninho Xavier played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hélder Custódio in the 44th minute of play. In the 46th minute Arí Pitta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Toninho Xavier saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Toninho Xavier showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hélder Custódio, who was totally free with the ball in the 48th minute. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Bernd Goldsche stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Geovanni Eger managed to get in a good position for a shot. Batalhão do Peçanha's supporters rose to their feet, but Geovanni Eger was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Diamantino Magalhães breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Vindoo De Hond sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out.
