The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The Botafogo MZRJ fans' excitement grew in the 5th match minute when Botafogo MZRJ's Matías Brasil looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. If Matías Brasil had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Botafogo MZRJ's Matías Brasil in the 17th minute got a chance for a shot 17th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Rockets's goalie prevented a goal. Botafogo MZRJ's Férid Khalifa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dudu Madureira in the 19th minute of play. Férid Khalifa stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Dudu Madureira's shot from short distance in the 20th minute. After 20 minutes, Dudu Madureira made it 1-1 with a short kick to the right side. Botafogo MZRJ's Férid Khalifa tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. 26 minutes into the game, Dudu Madureira cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-2. Férid Khalifa was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Matías Brasil received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Geraldo Queiroz came out and tried to block the shot, but Matías Brasil slotted it home off the left post making it 2-2 in the 29th minute. Geraldo Queiroz stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Matías Brasil's shot from short distance in the 31st minute. The supporters of Rockets booed when Botafogo MZRJ was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Wágner Queirós didn't get a good kick on the ball. Férid Khalifa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fabinho Mattos, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. Josué Matos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Matías Brasil sent away a hard shot on goal in the 41st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The crowd rose to their feet as Botafogo MZRJ's Matías Brasil slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Geraldo Queiroz. That made the score 3-2 after 46 minutes of play.

Matías Brasil sent away a hard shot on goal in the 51st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Doriva Medeiros's late challenge caught a Botafogo MZRJ's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Doriva Medeiros helped the player get up and apologised. If Matías Brasil had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 64th minute, Josué Matos ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Geraldo Queiroz was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-2. Josué Matos charged in rather forcefully in the 68th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Josué Matos the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Botafogo MZRJ getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Josué Matos hit a great ball. 74 minutes into the game, Cido Nóbrega was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Botafogo MZRJ's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Rockets the free kick. After 74 played minutes Botafogo MZRJ got a freekick which was hit by Cido Nóbrega. In the 77th minute, Wágner Queirós hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 79 played minutes, Rockets's Joélson Melo shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Férid Khalifa came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Rockets reached it. A collision led to Botafogo MZRJ getting a freekick after 80 minutes play. Marquinhos das Neves hit a great ball. Matías Brasil fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Geraldo Queiroz having to interfere. 87 minutes into the game, Botafogo MZRJ's Josué Matos nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Geraldo Queiroz made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 5-2. Murillo Loureiro recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 90th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 92 minutes of play Botafogo MZRJ's Josué Matos was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. In the 94th minute, Josué Matos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 95th minute of the match Lino Soeiro sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Férid Khalifa skillfully saved the ball.
