Kirby Houldsworth made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nichol Clark in the 38th minute of play. An unexpected shot in the 41st minute by Bradford Bonison got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. After a rather tough play, Adelaide's Belton Trenoweth got a free kick in the 42nd minute. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The wind increased when Cregan Porteus made the kick off in the second half. Kirby Houldsworth stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Bradford Bonison's shot from short distance in the 51st minute. If Nichol Clark had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. Kirby Houldsworth was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.
