When the match clock showed 9 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Hipolito Fritz sped through Club Deportes La Serena's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Waldemar Augustyn. After having played for 11 minutes, Luis Aravena managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Magallanes's supporters crossed their fingers, but Luis Aravena was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Waldemar Augustyn showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Salomone Marrodan in the 12th minute of the match. When the match had gone on for 14 minutes, Luis Aravena put it in 0-2 from a short distance just to the right of Waldemar Augustyn. The crowd rose to their feet as Xabel Doursther kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Tomás Las Casas. That made the score 1-2 in the 17 minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Luis Aravena in the 20th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Waldemar Augustyn prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When the match had gone on for 22 minutes, Xabel Doursther put it in 2-2 from a short distance just to the right of Tomás Las Casas. Christian Aravena kicked well hit freekick during the 25th minute of the match. After some careless play in the Club Deportes La Serena defense, Luis Aravena kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Waldemar Augustyn. The Club Deportes La Serena fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Waldemar Augustyn should have stopped the shot. Club Deportes La Serena's Waldemar Augustyn played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hipolito Fritz in the 38th minute of play. Tomás Las Casas showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Xabel Doursther, who was totally free with the ball in the 41st minute. 43 minutes into the match, Club Deportes La Serena's goal looked a bit too open when Luis Aravena came free, but Waldemar Augustyn reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 46 minutes, Luis Johnson mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Magallanes and the Club Deportes La Serena players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Club Deportes La Serena booed when Magallanes was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luis Johnson didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 47th minute the ball was on its way in behind Magallanes's goalkeeper Tomás Las Casas, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 2-3.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Florín Pretot stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Waldemar Augustyn made an important save on a dangerous shot by Luis Aravena in the 61st minute. Maurín Parot hit a great freekick 61 minutes into the match. Waldemar Augustyn made a fantastic save in the 62nd minute, when Luis Aravena sent off a good shot on target. After a defensive mix-up in Club Deportes La Serena's zone, Hipolito Fritz stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Waldemar Augustyn came out of the goal and Hipolito Fritz tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Club Deportes La Serena's Waldemar Augustyn played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Salomone Marrodan in the 66th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Magallanes's Hipolito Fritz got a free kick in the 75th minute. Hipolito Fritz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Waldemar Augustyn having to interfere. Hipolito Fritz could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 92nd minute of the match, but Waldemar Augustyn made a huge save. After some fancy dribbling in the 94th minute, Hipolito Fritz managed to get in a good position for a shot. Magallanes's supporters rose to their feet, but Hipolito Fritz was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Waldemar Augustyn breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Magallanes's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
