When Remi Astudillo fell near the penalty area in the 42nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Club Deportes La Serena's protests and gave Remi Astudillo a yellow card for diving instead. 43 minutes into the match, Club Deportes La Serena's goalkeeper Waldemar Augustyn had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jaime Rufo. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.
