The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 11th minute Nacional were awarded a corner. Maurinho Arruda went to the cornerflag to take it. A well-hit corner resulted in Luciano Inverso heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Christovao Haces didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Tarcísio Caetano went, in the 20th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. After some careless play in the Club Dep. Soc. Rodo defense, Gonzalo Carneiro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Christovao Haces. The Club Dep. Soc. Rodo fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Christovao Haces should have stopped the shot. 31 minutes had been played when some careless play by Club Dep. Soc. Rodo's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Maurinho Arruda was slow to take the kick. During this time Nacional's players had a chance to rest. The corner led Nacional's Maurinho Arruda to fire away a dangerous shot which Christovao Haces despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. 32 minutes into the match, Nacional's Gonzalo Carneiro sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Christovao Haces narrowly saved just below the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gonzalo Carneiro in the 34th minute of play forced Club Dep. Soc. Rodo's goalkeeper Christovao Haces to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 35 minutes into the match, Gonzalo Carneiro notched a goal, 0-4, to the right of Club Dep. Soc. Rodo's Christovao Haces. Christovao Haces was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 40 minutes into the match, Club Dep. Soc. Rodo's goal looked a bit too open when Gonzalo Carneiro came free, but Christovao Haces reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-4 lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Gonzalo Carneiro to strike the kick off in the second half. If Gonzalo Carneiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 51 minutes into the match, Club Dep. Soc. Rodo's goal looked a bit too open when Gonzalo Carneiro came free, but Christovao Haces reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 55th match minute, Nacional was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Antoni Poteralski to maneuver through the defense. 57 minutes into the match, Club Dep. Soc. Rodo's goalkeeper Christovao Haces had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Gonzalo Carneiro. Gonzalo Carneiro could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 59th minute of the match, but Christovao Haces made a huge save. After 65 minutes of play, Nacional's Gonzalo Carneiro made it 0-5 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Christovao Haces was left in no man's land by his defense there! 72 minutes into the game, Gonzalo Carneiro recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Christovao Haces. Gonzalo Carneiro showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-7. In the 78thth minute of the game Gonzalo Carneiro who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Club Dep. Soc. Rodo's Christovao Haces was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Gonzalo Carneiro blasted a shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Christovao Haces having to make a save. Christovao Haces took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gonzalo Carneiro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Club Dep. Soc. Rodo's Christovao Haces played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gonzalo Carneiro in the 82nd minute of play. In the 83rd minute Nacional were awarded a corner. Maurinho Arruda went to the cornerflag to take it. Luciano Inverso was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. Christovao Haces made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gonzalo Carneiro in the 86th minute of play. In the 88th minute Gonzalo Carneiro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Christovao Haces saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 93 minutes into the game, Angelo Elvira was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Club Dep. Soc. Rodo's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Nacional the free kick. When the match was over Nacional could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Club Dep. Soc. Rodo throughout the match.
