The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Roger Platt during the 26th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Roger Platt hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. Dean Townsley fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ralf Hudson having to interfere. Jamie Kemp's late challenge caught a Hilsea's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jamie Kemp helped the player get up and apologised. Roger Platt scored 1-3 in the 35th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Walter Allanson, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Walter Allanson stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Albert Christensen's shot from short distance in the 39th minute. Walter Allanson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Roger Platt in the 42nd minute of play. The Ampthill FC fans' excitement grew in the 46th match minute when Ampthill FC's Albert Christensen looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-4 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. After the first half Ampthill FC were leading 1-4. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

In the 70th match minute, Ampthill FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Larry Hallam to maneuver through the defense. In the 82nd match minute, Ampthill FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dylon Farmer to maneuver through the defense. Roger Platt's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Walter Allanson read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 94th minute of play. When the match was over Ampthill FC could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Hilsea throughout the match.
