But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Frazer Heath couldn't finish the play. Dale Murphy recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 14th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Gregory Rawson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 19thth minute of the game Carl Atkins who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Dorking United FC's Clive Blake was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 24th minute, Doug Lovell ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Franz Dunlop was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. John Paul Edworthy hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. Franz Dunlop took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from David Lowndes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Franz Dunlop showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from John Paul Edworthy in the 34th minute of the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Carl Atkins during the 39th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and David Lowndes made a kick off. In the 55th minute, Roger Faulkner hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
