Avraam Chalkias could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 5th minute of the match, but Manos Papaiakovou made a huge save. After 6 minutes, Gerasimos Kallitsis mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Go Ahead Eagles and the Olympiacos FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Panagiotis Bourousis blasted a shot towards the goal in the 8th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Fondas Kalantas having to make a save. Fondas Kalantas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Panagiotis Bourousis in the 9th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Giotis Kouloucheris in the 10th minute of play forced Olympiacos FC's goalkeeper Fondas Kalantas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Viktoras Papoutsatos hit a great freekick 13 minutes into the match. Fondas Kalantas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Manos Christodoulou in the 14th minute of the match. After 16 played minutes Go Ahead Eagles got a freekick which was hit by Apostolos Antoniou. Go Ahead Eagles's Manos Papaiakovou played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kostas Tziolas in the 17th minute of play. In the 19th minute, Nikos Moustos made a precise shot to the right of Fondas Kalantas. Olympiacos FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. Lazaros Tsakrilis's late challenge caught a Go Ahead Eagles's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Lazaros Tsakrilis helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Go Ahead Eagles booed when Olympiacos FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lazaros Tsakrilis didn't get a good kick on the ball. Kostas Tziolas had several of the Go Ahead Eagles's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 27 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-2 score and a disappointed Manos Papaiakovou as he didn't even see the shot coming. 41 minutes into the game, Avraam Chalkias recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Manos Papaiakovou. Avraam Chalkias showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-2. The crowd rose to their feet as Olympiacos FC's Kostas Tziolas slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Manos Papaiakovou. That made the score 3-2 after 45 minutes of play. Af the end of the first half the score was 3-2. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Kostas Tziolas to make the kick off. Manos Christodoulou could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 50th minute of the match, but Fondas Kalantas made a huge save. A collision led to Go Ahead Eagles getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Periklis Vakalis hit a great ball. Manos Papaiakovou took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Avraam Chalkias, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 57th minute, Kostas Tziolas ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Manos Papaiakovou was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-2. Olympiacos FC's Fondas Kalantas proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 60th minute of the match, managed to save Olympiacos FC from getting a goal against them. Panagiotis Bourousis kicked well hit freekick during the 65th minute of the match. 77 minutes into the match, Avraam Chalkias notched a goal, 5-2, to the right of Go Ahead Eagles's Manos Papaiakovou. Manos Papaiakovou was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Viktoras Papoutsatos in the 85th minute of play forced Go Ahead Eagles's goalkeeper Manos Papaiakovou to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Manos Papaiakovou showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Viktoras Papoutsatos, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute. In the 88th minute Panagiotis Bourousis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fondas Kalantas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 92 minutes into the game, Avraam Chalkias cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 6-2. Manos Papaiakovou was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Olympiacos FC had won after a very even match.
