In the 37th minute of the match Rot-Weiss-Essen got a corner. Westerland FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Ephraim Wichern ran over to the corner to take the kick. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Wolfgang Paulus to strike the kick off in the second half. Johann Scheuerer showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wolfgang Paulus, who was totally free with the ball in the 95th minute. When the final whistle went the supporters of Rot-Weiss-Essen were delighted that their team had defeated the much more dominant Westerland FC side.
