The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After a defensive mix-up in Carpathian Wolves's zone, Remus Vrejiu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ionică Alb came out of the goal and Remus Vrejiu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 6 minutes into the match, Dinu Talianu notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Carpathian Wolves's Ionică Alb. Ionică Alb was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dinu Talianu in the 9th minute of play forced Carpathian Wolves's goalkeeper Ionică Alb to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee felt a red card was in order, 15 minutes into the game, when Dumitru Ştoia put in a rough tackle. In the 15th match minute, Carpathian Wolves was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dumitru Ştoia to maneuver through the defense. Paul Bărbat recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 16th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ionică Alb took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Paul Bărbat, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ionică Alb showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Paul Bărbat, who was totally free with the ball in the 24th minute. 28 minutes into the match, Carpathian Wolves's goal looked a bit too open when Sebastian Baldovin came free, but Ionică Alb reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 37th minute Paul Bărbat shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ionică Alb saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Remus Vrejiu came up free with the goalie in the 41st minute, the Cavalerii Viola fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Remus Vrejiu couldn't finish the play. Sever Onitiu's late challenge caught a Carpathian Wolves's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Sever Onitiu helped the player get up and apologised. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 47th minute of the game. One of Cavalerii Viola:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Carpathian Wolves:s goal. When the match had been going on for 49 minutes, Carpathian Wolves's Nicu Steriopol got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Martin Argăseală. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

When Gigel Urduban came up free with the goalie in the 56th minute, the Carpathian Wolves fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gigel Urduban couldn't finish the play. After 61 minutes, Nicu Steriopol mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Carpathian Wolves and the Cavalerii Viola players grew even worse after the yellow card.
