The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 4th minute Oswald Haeselaers shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jef De Langhe saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 5th minute, Jules De Groote hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 7 minutes into the match, Sylven Van der Meiren dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Ive Verhoeven, 1-0. The supporters of Haithabu FC booed when Club Brugge was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Soren Leenders didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience was convinced that Oswald Haeselaers's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jef De Langhe was relentless in the 12th minute of the game. 13 minutes into the match, Haithabu FC's goalkeeper Ive Verhoeven had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Fredrik Wijgaert. Jef De Langhe took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Emiel Stercks, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Haithabu FC were awarded a corner in the 29th minute after Club Brugge's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Thomas-Jan De Cat took the corner. Club Brugge's Jef De Langhe played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Oswald Haeselaers in the 35th minute of play. 36 minutes had been played when some careless play by Club Brugge's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Thomas-Jan De Cat was slow to take the kick. During this time Haithabu FC's players had a chance to rest. After taking down the ball on Haithabu FC's corner Thomas-Jan De Cat fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Jef De Langhe quite easily take care of the ball. After 40 played minutes Haithabu FC got a freekick which was hit by Freek Boegaert. 42 minutes into the match, Oswald Haeselaers had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jef De Langhe. Club Brugge's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Oswald Haeselaers was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. In the 45thth minute of the game Oswald Haeselaers who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Club Brugge's Jef De Langhe was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

In the 52nd minute, Fredrik Wijgaert left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Club Brugge fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-2. After having played for 62 minutes, Sylven Van der Meiren managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Club Brugge's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sylven Van der Meiren was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 63rd minute, Fredrik Wijgaert had to be helped off the field due to a pulled leg muscle. Freek Boegaert got his second yellow card in the match during the 63rd minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. Club Brugge made a substitution. Birger De Mulder replaced Fredrik Wijgaert. After 64 played minutes Haithabu FC got a freekick which was hit by Freek Boegaert. Jules De Groote sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 75 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Club Brugge! Andrez Van Aertvinck struck a weak shot in the 88th minute. Jef De Langhe didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Haithabu FC. 91 minutes into the match, Club Brugge's goalkeeper Jef De Langhe had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Emiel Stercks. Ive Verhoeven made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sylven Van der Meiren in the 95th minute of play. The Club Brugge supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Haithabu FC's performance. The match ended with a win for Haithabu FC.
