The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The supporters of NovaStella FK booed when Hovby IF was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 3 match minutes in a wonderful position. Douglas Landin didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 5th minute of the game. One of Hovby IF:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of NovaStella FK:s goal. If Morgan Ljungberg had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Orvar Engström took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sven-Åke Hellström, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a little luck, NovaStella FK's Patrick Almkvist got control of the ball when Morgan Ljungberg tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 17th minute, NovaStella FK's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Orvar Larsson fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Orvar Engström made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Andreas Stålman in the 19th minute of play. Morgan Ljungberg scored 1-1 in the 23rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Patrick Almkvist, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Orvar Engström showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tobias Kullgren, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. 29 minutes into the match, Hovby IF's goal looked a bit too open when Sven-Åke Hellström came free, but Orvar Engström reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 30th minute, Sigvard Damm hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 32 minutes into the match, Hovby IF's goal looked a bit too open when Andreas Stålman came free, but Orvar Engström reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After taking down the ball on NovaStella FK's corner Sven-Åke Hellström fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Orvar Engström quite easily take care of the ball. Hovby IF's Orvar Engström played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Andreas Stålman in the 38th minute of play. In the 40th minute, Andreas Stålman ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Orvar Engström was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. In the 44th minute Sven-Åke Hellström shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Orvar Engström saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 47th minute, Morgan Ljungberg got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.
Patrick Almkvist made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jonas Lundström in the 51st minute of play. When Orvar Larsson came up free with the goalie in the 54th minute, the Hovby IF fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Orvar Larsson couldn't finish the play. Patrick Almkvist showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Orvar Larsson, who was totally free with the ball in the 56th minute. In the 57th match minute, NovaStella FK was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Andreas Stålman to maneuver through the defense. NovaStella FK's Patrick Almkvist played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jonas Lundström in the 58th minute of play. Lennart Pilblad ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner went over the outstretched arms of NovaStella FK's goalie and right to Jimmie Nilsson. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. NovaStella FK's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. The audience was convinced that Morgan Ljungberg's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Patrick Almkvist was relentless in the 63rd minute of the game. Orvar Larsson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Patrick Almkvist tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Sten Siggesson kicked well hit freekick during the 66th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in NovaStella FK's zone, Morgan Ljungberg stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Patrick Almkvist came out of the goal and Morgan Ljungberg tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Andreas Stålman in the 72nd minute of play forced Hovby IF's goalkeeper Orvar Engström to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The throw-in from Mikael Duset in the 79th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Hovby IF's Lennart Pilblad. Andreas Stålman hit a great freekick 80 minutes into the match. Orvar Larsson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 82nd minute. Patrick Almkvist tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Hannes Holmberg made in the 85th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Hovby IF's Lennart Pilblad. In the 86th minute, one of NovaStella FK:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for NovaStella FK. The referee gave Hovby IF a penalty, 88 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Lennart Pilblad, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of NovaStella FK's Patrick Almkvist. 2-2. After 92 minutes, Sigvard Damm mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Hovby IF and the NovaStella FK players grew even worse after the yellow card. 94 minutes into the match, Hovby IF's Orvar Larsson sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Patrick Almkvist narrowly saved just below the crossbar. A collision led to NovaStella FK getting a freekick after 95 minutes play. Andreas Stålman hit a great ball. In the 97th match minute, Hovby IF was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Douglas Landin to maneuver through the defense.
