In the 31st minute, Albérico Amorim ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. José Monteiro was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Albertino Lobato in the 36th minute of play forced Bembenfica's goalkeeper José Monteiro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The crowd rose to their feet as Sabino Carrasqueira kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving José Monteiro. That made the score 3-0 in the 39 minute of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half.
