Martinho Nunes didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Patrício Poças went, in the 5th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. The audience thought a goal was coming when Vítor Severiano got free with Raimundo Delgado in the 9th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Afonso Medeiros recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 10th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Martinho Nunes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Romão Miranda in the 17th minute of the match. In the 21st minute, Silvério Sabrosa left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Garanhão do SUL fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. Martinho Nunes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Romão Miranda in the 24th minute of the match. Martinho Nunes didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Silvério Sabrosa went, in the 25th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-3 was the resulting score. The supporters of Garanhão do SUL booed when MZ Fénix was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Aldaír Veiga didn't get a good kick on the ball. 29 minutes had been played when some careless play by MZ Fénix's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Aristides Brochado was slow to take the kick. During this time Garanhão do SUL's players had a chance to rest. In the 32nd minute, MZ Fénix's Aldaír Veiga ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Raimundo Delgado. Raimundo Delgado yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-3. Raimundo Delgado made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Aldaír Veiga in the 36th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Patrício Poças in the 37th minute of play forced MZ Fénix's goalkeeper Martinho Nunes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Vítor Severiano during the 38th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 38th minute, Vítor Severiano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Aldaír Veiga in the 42nd minute of play forced Garanhão do SUL's goalkeeper Raimundo Delgado to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 44th minute, Vítor Severiano managed to get in a good position for a shot. MZ Fénix's supporters rose to their feet, but Vítor Severiano was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Raimundo Delgado breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After having played for 46 minutes, Maurício Mansilha managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. MZ Fénix's supporters crossed their fingers, but Maurício Mansilha was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-3.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Aldaír Veiga stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Martinho Nunes made an important save on a dangerous shot by Patrício Poças in the 52nd minute. After a rather tough play, Garanhão do SUL's Romão Miranda got a free kick in the 54th minute. 55 minutes into the game, MZ Fénix's Aldaír Veiga nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Raimundo Delgado made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-3. Aldaír Veiga received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. Raimundo Delgado tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 63 minutes into the match, Garanhão do SUL's goal looked a bit too open when Afonso Medeiros came free, but Raimundo Delgado reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Martinho Nunes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Romão Miranda, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. Garanhão do SUL's Raimundo Delgado played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vítor Severiano in the 66th minute of play. In the 67th minute Aldaír Veiga shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Raimundo Delgado saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 71st minute, Luís Figo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Garanhão do SUL's Álvaro Calçada was substituted for Patrício Poças. A collision led to Garanhão do SUL getting a freekick after 72 minutes play. Luís Figo hit a great ball. In the 73rd match minute, Garanhão do SUL was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Álvaro Calçada to maneuver through the defense. In the 81st minute MZ Fénix were awarded a corner. Maurício Mansilha went to the cornerflag to take it. MZ Fénix's Martinho Nunes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Romão Miranda in the 82nd minute of play. MZ Fénix's Martinho Nunes proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 83rd minute of the match, managed to save MZ Fénix from getting a goal against them. Raimundo Delgado made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Aldaír Veiga in the 85th minute of play. With a little luck, MZ Fénix's Martinho Nunes got control of the ball when Silvério Sabrosa tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 93rd minute, Silvério Sabrosa reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Martinho Nunes. The goal made the score 2-4. When the final whistle went the supporters of Garanhão do SUL were delighted that their team had defeated the much more dominant MZ Fénix side.
