Tommy Duvall showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Muhannad Ajram, who was totally free with the ball in the 10th minute. In the 47th minute, Hamzah Al Safi ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Tommy Duvall was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Muhannad Ajram stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After 68 minutes, Brent Kerns mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Persepolis F.C. and the Líbano players grew even worse after the yellow card. Tommy Duvall made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kadar Aban in the 81st minute of play. 83 minutes into the match, Líbano's goal looked a bit too open when Antoine Nix came free, but Fatih Adas reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Líbano getting a freekick after 84 minutes play. Hadi Faraj hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Persepolis F.C.'s zone, Hadi Faraj stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tommy Duvall came out of the goal and Hadi Faraj tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 94th match minute, Líbano was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hadi Faraj to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Antoine Nix in the 96th minute of play forced Líbano's goalkeeper Fatih Adas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
