The audience thought a goal was coming when Carsten Klaasens got free with Naci Ünüvar in the 10th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Seagulls's Jan-Joost Smeekes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gregor Ranzijn in the 13th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Seagulls's Stef Pragt got a free kick in the 19th minute. Geale van den Brink scored 0-2 in the 23rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jan-Joost Smeekes, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 28th minute Geale van den Brink shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jan-Joost Smeekes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A hard shot 32 in the game by Wilco Owusu Abeyie from a close distance when the talented Naci Ünüvar managed to make a qualified save. S.C. Potentia's players were relieved. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-3 lead.

The wind increased when Job Bot made the kick off in the second half. After having played for 58 minutes, Geale van den Brink managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. S.C. Potentia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Geale van den Brink was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Job Bot's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 62ndth minute, Jan-Joost Smeekes skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Floris Stühling hit a great freekick 67 minutes into the match. In the 81st minute, Ruud Schokkenbroek hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Fernando Waterreus could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 86th minute of the match, but Jan-Joost Smeekes made a huge save. S.C. Potentia's Naci Ünüvar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Roger Popken in the 90th minute of play. Ruud Schokkenbroek kicked well hit freekick during the 91st minute of the match. In the 94th minute, Gregor Ranzijn made a precise shot to the right of Jan-Joost Smeekes. Seagulls's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-5. S.C. Potentia's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
