Virgílio da Rocha made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Zé Carlos de Azevedo in the 5th minute of play. José Vítor Rodrigues struck a weak shot in the 6th minute. Virgílio da Rocha didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Independente FC. In the 10th minute, Gilberto Gonçalves left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Independente FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. In the 15th minute, Gilberto Gonçalves hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Independente FC booed when Grêmio Bulls was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Magno Marinho didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gilberto Gonçalves in the 20th minute of play forced Grêmio Bulls's goalkeeper Virgílio da Rocha to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Nestor Quintal made a fantastic save in the 22nd minute, when Osvaldinho Cerezo sent off a good shot on target. Nestor Quintal showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gerson de Barros in the 23rd minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Independente FC's Walmir Berger got a free kick in the 25th minute. 27 minutes into the match, Independente FC's goal looked a bit too open when Magno Marinho came free, but Nestor Quintal reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. José Vítor Rodrigues hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. In the 30th minute, Diogo de Souza hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Grêmio Bulls's Virgílio da Rocha played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Zé Carlos de Azevedo in the 32nd minute of play. A collision led to Grêmio Bulls getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. Gerson de Barros hit a great ball. 33 minutes into the game, Magno Marinho was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Grêmio Bulls's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Independente FC the free kick. Magno Marinho kicked well hit freekick during the 34th minute of the match. Benedito Trancoso received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Virgílio da Rocha tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Virgílio da Rocha stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Zé Carlos de Azevedo's shot from short distance in the 43rd minute. After 44 minutes of play, Independente FC's José Vítor Rodrigues made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Virgílio da Rocha was left in no man's land by his defense there! Virgílio da Rocha stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Zé Carlos de Azevedo's shot from short distance in the 47th minute. After the first half Independente FC were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

After some fancy dribbling in the 51st minute, Zé Carlos de Azevedo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Independente FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Zé Carlos de Azevedo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Virgílio da Rocha breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Grêmio Bulls's Virgílio da Rocha proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 54th minute of the match, managed to save Grêmio Bulls from getting a goal against them. In the 56th minute Independente FC were awarded a corner. Gilberto Gonçalves went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner ended in Gilberto Gonçalves almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Grêmio Bulls's Virgílio da Rocha did a great save. Zé Carlos de Azevedo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 58th minute of the match, but Virgílio da Rocha made a huge save. The crowd rose to their feet as José Vítor Rodrigues kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Virgílio da Rocha. That made the score 0-3 in the 59 minute of play. José Vítor Rodrigues fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Virgílio da Rocha having to interfere. 67 minutes into the match, Zé Carlos de Azevedo dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Virgílio da Rocha, 0-4. In the 71st minute, Nilmar Rosa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 79 minutes into the match, Grêmio Bulls's goal looked a bit too open when Zé Carlos de Azevedo came free, but Virgílio da Rocha reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Walmir Berger kicked well hit freekick during the 80th minute of the match. The supporters of Grêmio Bulls booed when Independente FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. Inácio das Neves didn't get a good kick on the ball. Virgílio da Rocha made an important save on a dangerous shot by Zé Carlos de Azevedo in the 88th minute. If Ezequiel Barral had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Grêmio Bulls fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Independente FC were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
