The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Edmílson Matos came out of the goal in the 3rd minute to try and stop a shot by Vascogoianiense FC's Júnior Camargo. But to his dismay, Júnior Camargo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Edmílson Matos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Júnior Camargo, who was totally free with the ball in the 6th minute. AFC - Curitiba were furious when Edmundo Arantes was red carded, 9 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. AFC - Curitiba:s Edmílson Matos showed great skill when he stopped Júnior Camargo:s penalty. Edmílson Matos didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Júnior Camargo went, in the 10th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. 12 minutes into the game, Vascogoianiense FC's Ronaldo de Salles nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Edmílson Matos made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3. AFC - Curitiba's Edmílson Matos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ronaldo de Salles in the 17th minute of play. Gugu Félix kicked well hit freekick during the 17th minute of the match. In the 20th match minute, AFC - Curitiba was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lenílson Santos to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to Vascogoianiense FC getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Túlio Paes hit a great ball. After 27 minutes Vascogoianiense FC's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Régis Lima who took care of the corner kick. A collision led to AFC - Curitiba getting a freekick after 28 minutes play. Gugu Félix hit a great ball. The Vascogoianiense FC fans' excitement grew in the 31st match minute when Vascogoianiense FC's Júnior Camargo looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-4 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. After 35 played minutes Vascogoianiense FC got a freekick which was hit by Ulisses Cordeiro. Edmílson Matos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Júnior Camargo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gugu Félix might have been able to make a better finish in the 42nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Olavo Fonseca. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gugu Félix ran back to his position shaking his head. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-4.

AFC - Curitiba's Edmílson Matos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Júnior Camargo in the 54th minute of play. In the 58th minute of the match AFC - Curitiba got a corner. Vascogoianiense FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Régis Lima ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner led AFC - Curitiba's Régis Lima to fire away a dangerous shot which Olavo Fonseca despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. The supporters of Vascogoianiense FC booed when AFC - Curitiba was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Régis Lima didn't get a good kick on the ball. Edmílson Matos acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 68th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Júnior Camargo. In the 70th match minute, Vascogoianiense FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ronaldo de Salles to maneuver through the defense. If Conrado Damião had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hudson Pinho in the 75th minute of play forced Vascogoianiense FC's goalkeeper Olavo Fonseca to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 79 played minutes Vascogoianiense FC got a freekick which was hit by Túlio Paes. Edmílson Matos made a fantastic save in the 82nd minute, when Josué Pena sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Vascogoianiense FC getting a freekick after 82 minutes play. Túlio Paes hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, AFC - Curitiba's Agostinho Castro got a free kick in the 87th minute. In the 88th minute, Anderson Valladares got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Vascogoianiense FC played a much better game than AFC - Curitiba and deserved their victory. The AFC - Curitiba players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
