Mazinho Baptista could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 22nd minute of the match, but Gilson Arósio made a huge save. Wellington Phoenix's Dé Rossi shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 24th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Gilson Arósio but with some difficulty. Gilson Arósio took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mazinho Baptista, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 28th minute, Lúcio Mattos managed to get in a good position for a shot. Pombal 2003 F.C.'s supporters rose to their feet, but Lúcio Mattos was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Benedito Silveira breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Benedito Silveira showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Toninho Duarte in the 30th minute of the match. When Cícero Ribeiro came up free with the goalie in the 32nd minute, the Pombal 2003 F.C. fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cícero Ribeiro couldn't finish the play. Toninho Duarte took the ball and in the 35 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Benedito Silveira. Benedito Silveira dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Pombal 2003 F.C.'s goalkeeper couldn't reach when Mazinho Baptista 38 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 1-1. Benedito Silveira showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lúcio Mattos in the 45th minute of the match. After the first half Pombal 2003 F.C. were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

A collision led to Wellington Phoenix getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Amadeu Maranhense hit a great ball. 57 minutes into the game, Wellington Phoenix's Juarês Teixeira nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Gilson Arósio made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-2. Gilson Arósio came out of the goal in the 60th minute to try and stop a shot by Wellington Phoenix's Amadeu Maranhense. But to his dismay, Amadeu Maranhense quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-2. Gilson Arósio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mazinho Baptista in the 69th minute of play. 70 minutes into the match, Pombal 2003 F.C.'s goal looked a bit too open when Amadeu Maranhense came free, but Gilson Arósio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gonçalo Cearense's late challenge caught a Wellington Phoenix's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gonçalo Cearense helped the player get up and apologised. Gilson Arósio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mazinho Baptista in the 76th minute of the match.
