Remo da Costa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mazinho Baptista, who was totally free with the ball in the 8th minute. Amadeu Maranhense could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 9th minute of the match, but Remo da Costa made a huge save. Mazinho Baptista sent away a hard shot on goal in the 11th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The Wellington Phoenix fans' excitement grew in the 11th match minute when Wellington Phoenix's Gustavo Zonta looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Claudinei Teles didn't get a good kick on the ball. Remo da Costa was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Mazinho Baptista showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 4-0 in the 23 minute of play. Remo da Costa made an important save on a dangerous shot by Amadeu Maranhense in the 34th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jeremias Mota during the 35th minute. Remo da Costa was out of position in the 39 minute of play, and Amadeu Maranhense capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Amadeu Maranhense really showed his touch with that goal: 6-0. A collision led to S S Palestra Italia getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Claudinei Teles hit a great ball. Remo da Costa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gustavo Zonta in the 46th minute of play.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Gustavo Zonta to strike the kick off in the second half. The referee ignored S S Palestra Italia's protests and gave Luís Paulo da Mata a yellow card for diving instead. S S Palestra Italia's Remo da Costa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gil Cardoso in the 93rd minute of play. 97 minutes into the game, Amadeu Maranhense cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 10-1. Remo da Costa was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Wellington Phoenix fully deserved thier win.
