After a defensive mix-up in EDI MZB's zone, Erik Vander stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tarcisio Gerber came out of the goal and Erik Vander tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Marquinhos Domingues was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Gilvan Faria showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 10 minute of play. Joinville Esporte Clube's defense didn't have a chance, in the 16th minute, when Belmiro Sanches scored to the left of an out of position Marquinhos Domingues, making the score, 2-0. In the 18th minute, Hortêncio Passos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Tarcisio Gerber took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Célio Mangueira, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 20th minute, Claudinei Albuquerque hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Marquinhos Domingues showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hortêncio Passos in the 24th minute of the match. In the 26th minute, Hortêncio Passos got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Hortêncio Passos during the 40th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. When Célio Mangueira came up free with the goalie in the 41st minute, the Joinville Esporte Clube fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Célio Mangueira couldn't finish the play. Thanks to some nice moves Hortêncio Passos could shoot a difficult shot in the 43rd minute, which Marquinhos Domingues however easily saved by the left post. Luiz Fábio Dantas kicked well hit freekick during the 43rd minute of the match. Gilvan Faria received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 44th minute. Marquinhos Domingues tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Marquinhos Domingues made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gilvan Faria in the 53rd minute of play. Tarcisio Gerber showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ricardo Arantes, who was totally free with the ball in the 54th minute. When David Andrade fell near the penalty area in the 57th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored EDI MZB's protests and gave David Andrade a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to EDI MZB getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. David Andrade hit a great ball. The supporters of EDI MZB booed when Joinville Esporte Clube was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Célio Mangueira didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 69 played minutes, Joinville Esporte Clube's Hélio Furtado shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Tarcisio Gerber came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Joinville Esporte Clube reached it. Célio Mangueira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tarcisio Gerber having to interfere. Marquinhos Domingues showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hortêncio Passos, who was totally free with the ball in the 85th minute. EDI MZB made a substitution. Francisco Trigo replaced Gláuber Marquez. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Danilo Pires during the 89th minute. The supporters of EDI MZB booed when Joinville Esporte Clube was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. José Paulo Sousa didn't get a good kick on the ball. Hortêncio Passos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Joinville Esporte Clube's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
