Ypiranga FC's Ronaldão Ceresso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Breno Diniz in the 15th minute of play. In the 16th minute Breno Diniz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ronaldão Ceresso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ronaldão Ceresso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Virgílio Teixeira in the 29th minute of play. José Augusto Veigas short, quick shot in the 33rdth minute got Waldir Pontes to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. With an all-out effort, Ypiranga FC's Waldir Pontes threw himself towards the right post 34 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Célio Ferraz, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Waldir Pontes made a fantastic save in the 35th minute, when José Augusto Veiga sent off a good shot on target. 37 minutes into the match, Xandeco FC's goal looked a bit too open when Célio Ferraz came free, but Waldir Pontes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ronaldão Ceresso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Breno Diniz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Waldir Pontes made a fantastic save in the 40th minute, when José Augusto Veiga sent off a good shot on target. In the 45th minute the ball was on its way in behind Xandeco FC's goalkeeper Waldir Pontes, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Célio Ferraz in the 47th minute of play forced Xandeco FC's goalkeeper Waldir Pontes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

Diego Zonta, 53 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Waldir Pontes was left in no man's land by his defense there! Jorge Oliveira charged in rather forcefully in the 61st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jorge Oliveira the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Ypiranga FC booed when Xandeco FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 61 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jorge Oliveira didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers José Augusto Veiga in the 67th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Waldir Pontes saved Xandeco FC from getting behind. In the 68th minute, José Augusto Veiga got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The supporters of Ypiranga FC booed when Xandeco FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 69 match minutes in a wonderful position. Waldir Gonçalves didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to Ypiranga FC getting a freekick after 71 minutes play.
