In the 11th minute, Armando Saldanha fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Décio Hermes, passed just outside the right post. The crowd rose to their feet as Armando Saldanha kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Décio Hermes. That made the score 1-0 in the 14 minute of play. A collision led to FÊNIX F.C. getting a freekick after 17 minutes play. Aílton Pinheiro hit a great ball. Artur Maranhense took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Erivaldo Costa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Armando Saldanha during the 20th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 22nd match minute, Ferrao FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sérgio Batista to maneuver through the defense. FÊNIX F.C.'s Oswaldo Fantini got a good chance for a goal in the 25th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Décio Hermes was a little too slow when Armando Saldanha got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 27th minute. The score was now 2-0. With an all-out effort, FÊNIX F.C.'s Décio Hermes threw himself towards the right post 32 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Armando Saldanha, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. After a rather tough play, Ferrao FC's Dráuzio de Amaral got a free kick in the 32nd minute. Mário Matorins short, quick shot in the 35thth minute got Décio Hermes to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 36 minutes into the match, FÊNIX F.C.'s Mário Matorin sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Décio Hermes narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 37 minutes into the game, Erivaldo Costa was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ferrao FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FÊNIX F.C. the free kick. In the 37th minute, Erivaldo Costa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Ferrao FC booed when FÊNIX F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 39 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marcos Maranhense didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 47 played minutes, FÊNIX F.C.'s Valdemar de Barros shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Décio Hermes came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in FÊNIX F.C. reached it. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Armando Saldanha stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Ferrao FC's Décio Hermes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mário Matorin in the 51st minute of play. Gustavo Cabral hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Armando Saldanha in the 55th minute of play forced Ferrao FC's goalkeeper Décio Hermes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Décio Hermes stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Mário Matorin's shot from short distance in the 66th minute. Décio Hermes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Armando Saldanha, who was totally free with the ball in the 67th minute. In the 69th minute, Mário Matorin got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Décio Hermes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Oswaldo Fantini in the 71st minute of play. A collision led to Ferrao FC getting a freekick after 73 minutes play. Gustavo Cabral hit a great ball. After 76 minutes, Erivaldo Costa made it 2-1 with a short kick to the right side. FÊNIX F.C.'s Artur Maranhense tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Décio Hermes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Oswaldo Fantini, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Erivaldo Costa could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 81st minute of the match, but Artur Maranhense made a huge save. Armando Saldanha took the ball and in the 82 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Décio Hermes. Décio Hermes dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-1. In the 89th minute, Mário Matorin got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 93rd minute, Patrick Penha hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. There was no doubt that FÊNIX F.C. were the better team. FÊNIX F.C.'s players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
