Oséas das Neves could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 29th minute of the match, but Olavo Vasconcelos made a huge save. 30 minutes into the match, Desportiva Paulo Afonso's goal looked a bit too open when Amauri Romero came free, but Olavo Vasconcelos reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Olavo Vasconcelos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Benedito Fernandez, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Benedito Fernandez in the 34th minute of play forced Desportiva Paulo Afonso's goalkeeper Olavo Vasconcelos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Oséas das Neves fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Olavo Vasconcelos having to interfere. After 47 played minutes Desportiva Paulo Afonso got a freekick which was hit by Dinei Moraes. After the first half Desportiva Paulo Afonso were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Francisco Garcia made the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute there was a penalty for Desportiva Paulo Afonso. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 87th match minute, Desportiva Paulo Afonso was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hélder Trigo to maneuver through the defense. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Olavo Vasconcelos showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball.
