Dieter Strelow hit a great freekick 10 minutes into the match. In the 10th minute Hendrik Holletschek shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Siim Kikas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, De Gulden Draak's Dieter Strelow got a free kick in the 15th minute. Siim Kikas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pompiliu Roşculeţ in the 16th minute of play. When FC Hamburg's François Rouvrais in the 17th minute got a chance for a shot 17th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye De Gulden Draak's goalie prevented a goal. 18 minutes had been played when some careless play by De Gulden Draak's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. With an all-out effort, De Gulden Draak's Johnny Banks threw himself towards the right post 22 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Claudius Marsching, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Siim Kikas took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from François Rouvrais, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 28th minute, François Rouvrais managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Hamburg's supporters rose to their feet, but François Rouvrais was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Siim Kikas breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a little luck, FC Hamburg's Johnny Banks got control of the ball when Manuel Peres tried to sneak it across the goal line. Johnny Banks made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Erwin Backes in the 40th minute of play. If François Rouvrais had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. François Rouvrais sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Manuel Peres to strike the kick off in the second half. François Rouvrais fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Siim Kikas having to interfere. The supporters of FC Hamburg booed when De Gulden Draak was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Justin Ostrowicki didn't get a good kick on the ball. FC Hamburg's Pompiliu Roşculeţ got a good chance for a goal in the 56th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. François Rouvrais fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Siim Kikas having to interfere. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 61st minute of the game. One of De Gulden Draak:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of FC Hamburg:s goal. In the 62nd minute of the game, FC Hamburg got a penalty. The shot went straight in by the left post. Siim Kikas stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of François Rouvrais's shot from short distance in the 68th minute. Siim Kikas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Pompiliu Roşculeţ in the 69th minute of the match. A nice corner shot did that Hendrik Holletschek got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Siim Kikas quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. François Rouvrais's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 74thth minute, Siim Kikas skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. François Rouvrais did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 0-3 to the left of a surprised Siim Kikas 74 minutes into the match. FC Hamburg's Rainer Bethge was substituted for Markus Heimrath. FC Hamburg made a substitution. Rafael Pausch replaced Manfred Kottsieper. Gert Porsche's late challenge caught a FC Hamburg's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gert Porsche helped the player get up and apologised. In the 79th minute, Gert Porsche hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
